A Brief Reflection On The Year So Far (AND A LIST OF THE 25 BEST ALBUMS OF 2010)

2010 is an amazing year for music.  Anyone looking at its best albums will tell you that, and halfway into it (about), I’d say that the only years of last decade that still look atop it are 2002 (You Forgot It In People, Up The Bracket), and 2007 (Sound Of Silver, Kala).  Looking at my favorite albums of 2009 (including xx, The Life Of The World To Come, Hospice, Bitte Orca, and It’s Blitz! in my A range), 2010 already completely slays it, with more top albums and the top albums being generally better.  Maybe it’s that I’m listening to a greater breadth of music (I am!), but that alone wouldn’t explain just how solid the output of 2010 has been.  It seems that almost every band that didn’t put out an album in 2009 (except for TV On The Radio, but we’re getting a great-looking side project from Dave Sitek) is releasing an album, and on top of that, several debut full lengths (Janelle Monáe, Dessa, Best Coast) have been superb.

My only issue so far is the lack of any A+ albums.  Nothing would break the top seven (the A+’s) on my decade list , and only the top one would break the top ten.  The top three or four would break top twenty, though, which is pretty impressive for only half of a year.

Without further ado, these are my twenty five favorite albums that I’ve heard that have been released in 2010.  All twenty five meet the grade of an A-, and the top ten meet the grade of A.
